Auxilium Arts and Science College for Women

Auxilium Arts and Science College for Women serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity for the rural communities around Madurai. Established in 2022, the college is a cherished dream brought to life by the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco from the Province of Tiruchirappalli. Our mission is to empower young girls and women from marginalized backgrounds by providing them with quality higher education and fostering opportunities for personal and professional growth.

History of the College

Mission in Chittampatti: A Historical Overview:


Auxilium Arts and Science College for Women is located in Chittampatti, a fertile agrarian area on the outskirts of Madurai District, well-connected to over 100 surrounding villages. The mission began in 2015 under the visionary leadership of Rev. Sr. Magnificat Soosai, FMA, then Provincial of the undivided Chennai Province (INM). She envisioned a higher education center strategically positioned to benefit the local community. The college's journey began with an initial land acquisition of 3.5 acres, which was later expanded to 6.39 acres following the bifurcation of the province in 2017, leading to the establishment of the Province of Tiruchirappalli (INT).
Rev. Sr. Amalanathan Mary Margaret, the first Provincial of Our Lady of Snow Province, Tiruchirappalli, continued this vision. Recognizing the need for an Arts and Science College for Women, she and her council spearheaded the college's establishment. Construction began, and the first phase was completed and blessed on February 13, 2022, during the Province Gratitude Day.
On March 30, 2022, the Directorate of Collegiate Education, Chennai, issued the Letter of Intent to start the college. The Government Order to establish the institution was received on June 27, 2022, granting permission to offer five undergraduate courses: B.A. English, B.Sc. Mathematics,B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Com (Computer Applications),B.B.A.
A new community was officially established at Chittampatti on June 24, 2022, with four pioneering sisters: Rev. Sr. Vedamuthu Saveriammal, the first Animator, along with Sr. Jebamalai Saleth Mary, Sr. Samson S. Gnana Jennifer, and Sr. Joseph Kulanthai Theresa. After an inspection by Madurai Kamaraj University on July 8, 2022, the college received its affiliation onAugust 3, 2022. The first batch of students was welcomed on August 24, 2022, marking a significant milestone—the Centenary Batch, celebrating 100 years of FMA presence in India.
On September 6, 2022, the college was honored by the visit of Mother Chiara Cazzuola, the Mother General, who inaugurated and blessed the Centenary Block. During her visit, the foundation stone for a new Academic Block was also laid. In its second academic year, the college expanded its academic offerings, adding new undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as job-oriented diploma programs. The ground floor of the new Academic Block was inaugurated on July 24, 2023, further enhancing the infrastructure.
Additionally, Auxilium Hostel was opened to provide accommodation for students from other districts, and a canteen was established to serve refreshments to students and staff. Guided by the charism of Don Bosco and Mother Mazzarello, the mission of Auxilium Arts and Science College for Women remains steadfast in providing quality higher education to young women from rural and underprivileged backgrounds.

To transform young women from economically disadvantaged and rural backgrounds into efficient, empowered individuals through the provision of quality education and holistic development.

MISSION

To provide higher education and skill-based training to economically and socially marginalized sections of society in and around the neighboring districts of Madurai, enabling them to become intellectually alert, socially conscious, morally upright, and responsible citizens.

MOTTO & EMBLEM

The Motto of the College is KNOWLEDGE AND VIRTUE.
The College Emblem constitutes a book , a lily and a lamp. The book stands for Knowledge and the lily for Virtue. The Lamp with the burning flame is a reminder to Auxilians to keep the light of Knowledge and Virtue always alive. The hope and prayer of Auxilium is that every Auxilian while attaining Knowledge strives to acquire Virtue so that Knowledge and Virtue blend to make her a perfect model of womanhood. Value Education classes for Non-Catholics and Faith Formation classes for Catholics are obligatory. The College is run according to the principles and method of St. John Bosco, the greatest educator of the 19th century and the Founder of the Salesian Society.

Our educational mission is to nurture young women into becoming intellectually enlightened, spiritually inspired, emotionally stable, morally upright, socially committed, and holistically developed individuals. These empowered women will serve as catalysts for social change in contemporary India.
In alignment with the vision of its founders, the college is dedicated to supporting underprivileged, economically disadvantaged, and socially marginalized young women. The Auxilium Educating Community—comprising students, staff, parents, administration, affiliates, and well-wishers—works collaboratively to achieve this mission. Each year, an Educative Project is meticulously designed with active input from faculty, parents, and students, who remain the central focus of all educational initiatives. The college highly values and encourages active parental participation in the preparation and execution of this project to ensure its success and lasting impact.

Auxilium Arts and Science College for Women is affiliated with Madurai Kamaraj University and began its inaugural academic year on August 24, 2022coinciding with the celebration of 100 years of FMA's presence in India.

A significant milestone in the college's history was the visit of Mother General, Madre Chiara Cazzuola, on September 6, 2022. During her visit, she unveiled the plaque for the "Centenary Block" and laid the foundation stone for the new "Academic Block," marking the beginning of its construction.

These events symbolize the college's commitment to providing quality education and advancing its mission to empower young women through holistic learning experiences.
